Mairin V - An Inboard Center Console Power Boat

Mairin V is another design which stretches the envelope of the use case somewhat; but in my mind it serves a useful purpose, if only to clarify the options. It is a strong deviation from the hullforms of the other boats of the class; so much so that I contemplated not including it here. But it has potential – if not here then somewhere else.

Unlike the other boats, Mairin V has a “soft chine”, or semi-displacement hull-form. With enough hp under the console it would undoubtedly make the spec’d top speed. But the traits that make this hull-form worthy really happen at somewhat lower speeds. A top speed of 25 knots, and cruise in around 20 or the high teens will work well here. while it’s semi displacement hull may give it a tendency to roll a bit, it is a more gentle motion that it’s hard chined siblings.

Woodstrip epoxy/glass construction will build a strong hull, with a slightly built-down keel-form to allow space  for the inboard shaft, and a respectably sized protective skeg. As drawn, the boat features a hard top supported by laminate struts on each side. For those who don’t care to juggle tackle around the struts, a more conventional strut system inboard around the console is an option. (renderings of such an option are in the works)
