Mairin II - An Outboard powered Center Console Power Boat
Mairin II is one of a series of center console boats designed for use as transportation to a water access cottage on Georgian Bay. The use case specified a length of 30′ and a top speed of 30 knots. With the pair of 150 hp outboard motors mounted on an external bracket/swim platform this design will exceed the top speed requirement. A single engine of 350-400 hp could exceed the speed requirement handily, while sacrificing some measure of safety given by the redundancy of twin engines. Twin fuel tanks mounted closer to midships/center of flotation minimize the impact of variable fuel amounts on trim.
Like the other boats in this series, the construction method specified is woodstrip – epoxy/glass, allowing skilled amateurs, or professional shops to build the boat reasonably economically as a one-off.
This design features a moderate V hull with 18 degrees deadrise at the transom. Flared sections forward will throw off the spray, while a little tumblehome aft gives the boat a very traditional appearance.
